I am a Golf Course Architect, registered Landscape Architect, and Land Planner located in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. I have over twenty three years of experience in these professions and have always associated with people and projects of high standards and quality. Through total dedication and apparent attention to detail, my golf courses are recognized as premium facilities. The following is a brief summary of my professional background and qualifications.
I became interested in golf course design while working at Sea Palms Golf & Tennis Resort on St. Simons Island, Georgia as an intern in Landscape Architecture. After graduating with a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia in 1984, I joined Edward Pinckney / Associates Ltd. of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, a nationally recognized firm. During this period I gained invaluable professional experience in the many disciplines of Landscape Architecture and my exposure and interest in golf course design grew. I soon joined Willard C. Byrd and Associates Hilton Head office where the primary service was golf course design. I eventually was selected to open a satellite office for Willard Byrd in Little River, South Carolina. With Willard Byrd I worked on numerous golf course projects and gained appreciated experience, but eventually the fact that Mr. Byrd would always and rightfully be the sole Architect of record became a personal issue.
In 1992 I began designing golf courses and providing other related professional services under my own name, Tim Cate Designs, Inc. During this period I have created Panther's Run Golf Links, Thistle Golf Club, The Player's Club, Tiger's Eye Golf Links, Leopard's Chase Golf Club, Jaguar's Lair Golf Club, Cape Fear National Golf Club, three nine hole additions, and provided renovation services. Thistle Golf Club and Tiger's Eye Golf Links are rated among the top ten and top five golf courses, respectively, in the Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area, which includes more than 120 courses. Tiger's Eye is repeatedly on Golf Digest's top 100 public courses in the nation. Both of these visually stunning courses now have a track records and are highly successful and representative of the level of quality and detail consistent throughout my courses. Leopard's Chase, a new premium course located near Sunset Beach, North Carolina has received the highest level of recognition including the best new course award from both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine and Golfweek has ranked Leopard's Chase at number four on their best courses you can play in North Carolina rankings. The yet to open Cape Fear National in Wilmington, North Carolina and Jaguar's Lair near Sunset Beach , North Carolina also promise to be well received and among the best in the region.
Please contact any owners of my courses for reference information. If I can be of assistance or answer any questions please contact me at (910) 579-9163.
